I read an article on interior adhesives for almost any surface to attach picture frames, or almost anything. comes off cleanly, sold by home depot but unable to find in store. They were saying there is several different types for different surfaces. It was one of those articles about new items on the market. Can be used so that you dont have to take objects off the counters when traveling. Anyone read that same article?

For stuff on the counters, we use what I think is generically called "Museum Putty" or "Earthquake Putty".  I've also seen it sold as a product to hold posters to a wall in a kid's bedroom.  One package I have is black and the other blue.  There are lots of brands.   You roll it into little balls and squish it between the counter top and the aritifact.

For things on walls there is a line of peel off hooks made by 3M and use the brand "Command".  You will find a complete display of various sizes.  I think they are intended to be used by apartment renters that can't put nails in the wall.  Website here:  http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Command/home/

Bill is right about 3M's Command Adhesive strips;  I use various forms and sizes of it in both my home and our Beaver coach.  It usually is in the form of wall hooks that include the adhesive strips, but you can buy "spare" strips if you don't need hooks.  Simply pulling and stretching a pull tab on a strip will release it from an adhered-to surface.  Command hooks and strips are at Home Depot and any store with hardware hooks and adhesives.

However Bill's alternate suggestion would be better if you just want to temporarily hold items on a horizontal surface while traveling.  Checkout this resource:   http://www.sunsetent.com/Categories/quakesecure.html.
