My wife and myself will be heading south from Seattle to palm springs mid march, we plan to stop 3 nights once in Roseburg, OR(Twin River RV resort) then at Orland (Parkway RV resort) and then we have a problem. When I shop online for RV parks on I-5 from Modesto to Bakersfield I see no good parks on the I-5 route. I would like to stay on interstate. It would appear that a stop over in Bakersfield adds an additional hour of travel.

My question is has anyone got a lead for an overnight park on I-5, we plan to head into Indio,CA the last day and I wanted to move through LA mid morning or early afternoon to beat any traffic.

We have stayed at the Sommerville Almond Tree RV Park near Coalinga and found it a good place for an over night stop.  No, it is not a resort, but it is a great place for easy hook ups for the night.  Get off on exit 325.

Thanks Bill I am looking for a spot that would be closer to Bakersfield, I was hoping to stay on I-5 if possible.

So far the park in Orland (this is on I-5) looks OK the park is called Parkway RV park, we have not stayed here before
but the web site looks OK, our problem is the next stop. We like to keep the drive down to 5-6 hours, this would also put us in a great position for the drive into Indio leaving us with a 4 hour drive.

The one in Lost Hills may be your only alternative to Bakersfield, and it doesn't sound too intriguing.  Methinks one of the many Bakersfield parks is your best option;  perhaps one isn't as far off the freeway as others .

It would appear that this stretch of I-5 is for trucks!

Orange Grove on Edison exit east of Bakersfield is great easy access and good Oranges a bonus.

Thanks Gary for the update on Orange Grove!  we will be pulling in around 1700 how are the hook ups at the park?

50 amp standard-lots of room pull thrus.

Orange Grove is a good place.  We stay there whenever we go north-south.

Have you considered by-passing LA?  We  always go out CA58 to us395 and then down to San Bernardino and the desert.

I live in San Diego.  Travel through LA is a last resort.  You can not miss rush hour because it never ends.  I agree with Marty.  Take CA 58 from Bakersfield to US 395 to I 15 to I 215 to I 10.  Your nerves will thank you.

Both of those RV parks in Bakersfield are good.

If you want to avoid most if not all of the San
Bernadino traffic on I 15, after turning south on 395 turn east (left) at Adelanto to Apple Valley hwy 247 to Yucca Valley turn right hwy 62. Six miles or so downgrqade to I 10 West of Palm Springs. I have done this route 4 years two lane road ok not much traffic.

If you want to stay on I-5 - sort of - and be in the general Bakersfield area, my wife and I stayed at the Bear Mountain RV Resort when we traveled south over Christmas. I have to admit that I wasn't sure about it when doing the research but we found it to be a very clean, well organized and laid out park. It is very big rig friendly and actually only about (as I recall) 7 miles or so east of I-5. It is right next to Hwy 99 and is a very easy on to 99 and south to join I-5 again just prior to heading up the Grapevine. We would most definately stay there again.

I concur with the 58/395/I-15/I-215 route!  Done that, liked it, saves my brain!  (At least some of it!)  I hate the grapevine, and doubly hate the drive East in the LA area!  There is no non-commute hour!

I'd also recommend watching for CA 30 (exit 46) Eastbound about 5 miles after you get on 215.  It bypasses some crappy road, goes through Highland, is freeway all the way, but not crowded as I-10 is.  It re-joins I-10 over towards Redlands.  Cloverleaf from 215 and back on I-10.  No city streets.  Check it out on your FMCA atlas before you go!

I concur with the way Jerry said but CA 30 is posted as 210 east to Redland the last time I went that way. If you have never stayed at the new Seven Feathers RV Park at Canyonville, Or. you might give it a try it`s only a few miles south of Roseburg and one of the best parks I have stayed at, also has a truck stop.
