May 2010 Jane and I vacationed in the UK. We rented a Ford Mondeo turbo diesel 5 speed.  This car is a bit bigger than the Dodge Charger.  In the UK it is LARGE.  a true 5 seater.
Amazing car to drive; it returned 50mpg driving all over the UK and Cornwall which is really hilly. All my famiy have diesel cars. Toyota, Audi, and Mercedes. The Ford Mondeo is the best selling family sedan in the UK.
We loved it.Jane found it very easy to drive .The seats are very comfortable and the dash/instrument switch layout is very user friendly. Bear in mind we had never driven one before and add to that it was right hand drive.
One wonders why none of these amazing cars are imported to the USA !!!

I have been wondering since we spent 2 weeks in the UK in 2004.  We drove a Ford Galaxy 500 (not your old Galaxy 500, but a minivan style 5 seater, diesel 4 speed manual shift).  We got 50mpg.  The pound cost us $2.50, but the 50mpg saved us the difference from our horribly inefficient Infinity QX4, so our cost per mile was the same as it would have been at home.
Now, with the pound below $1.50, driving there is cheaper than it is here.

With the truth being that we are sitting on over 1 trillion bbls of oil, see my previous post, the current thinking of using the alternate energy for everything is majorly flawed.
