I posted back in 2010 that we were having problems with our large slideout awning behind the driver.  When driving in winds that are 30+ the awning begins to unroll and flap in the wind.  It is a Carefree of Colorado SOKIIIXL awning.  Been in contact with Carefree extensively to no avail.  They are of no help.  I am just curious does anybody else have this problem?  We completely replaced the whole complete awning including cover, brackets, awning, etc., because it finally tore our awning. Thought this would fix the problem but it didn't. We had an authorized Carefree service tech install new awning. He can't figure out what is happending either.  Still having same problem.  I am ready to sell this coach.  This is so frustrating.  I hope someone can help me.

Thank You,
Karen

Karen, it could be the awning spring is not tight enough.  We had this problem with our Safari coach and tightened the spring one turn and no more sag.  Colorado Carefree directed me to their website portion on how to adjust their awnings.  I don't know if this still exists.  When I called they were very helpful.

Our Beaver coach sags a little on the same slide as yours, but not enough to be a problem.  So we have left it alone.  It fluttlers a bit in the wind.

Marty,  Thanks for info.   But our problem is going down the road.  When we bring slide in the awning is tight.    The tech has checked the tension and it seems to be OK.

Thanks,

Karen

]Would one of the awning locks work? http://www.srhams.org/awning_lock.html this is a homemade one but google and there are tons of them.

I have an unused awning lock my son gave me that I never used. It is a rubber strap with kind of a bump that is supposed to keep the awning from unrolling when the slide is closed and is passive. Will send you picture and glad to send it for postage if you want to try it. It has a Carefree Part Kit Tractioner R00628

Most of the commercial ones require remembering to unlocking to prevent damage if you forget to unlock it.

Karen,

It's either you have wind catching the awning or the roller tension needs to be increased.  I'm not sure how the tech checked the tension given there's no pressure measurement that can be made.  The tech may not have wanted to adjust it because the fabric has to be removed to change the tension.  My bet is the tension.  Here's the manual: http://www.carefreeofcolorado......Service%20Manual.pdf

Richard,   I don't think the locks will work.  I looked at the picture you sent and it looks like it is attached to the patio awning and not the slide awning.  I have been told the locks won't work on the slide awning units.  Anybody know anything different???   I called my tech and he is going to come back out and adjust the tension again.  If adjusting the tension/spring works, is this something that I will have to have done periodically?????

Richard, is the part you have designed specifically for the slideout awning and not the patio awning.  If so, can you try and explain to me how I would attach it since you can't send me a picture.   I googled the part number you have and didn't find anything.  So, any info you can give me would be great.

Thank You

Karen

I did E mail it to your E main address shown in your profile FUNBUS. It is a black rubber strap that goes arround the awning that you screw one end to the awning and the other end attaches with an O ring to the end that is screwed down. It has a thumb like projection that is positioned next to the wall of the motorhome when the slide is closed to prevent the roller from turning. When you put the slide out from the wall there the thumb misses the wall. It is designed for a window or slide awning according to my son.

I will send them to Gerald he is the genius and may be able to post the pictures.

Thanks Richard, I did get the pictures.  My tech is coming out in the next week or so and I am going to ask him about them and show him the picture.  Appreciate all your help.  IF they will work I will be back in touch with you.

Karen, periodic adjustment should not be required.  My guess is that it became loose when the fabric was replaced or the tensiiner has corrosion or otger restrictive build up.

Okay I looked at the installation instructions and can understand what these achieve.  What do they do?
